Cookie policy

What Expert Quebec does, and does not do, with cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them.

Last updated November 4, 2026

This policy explains what the site stores in your browser and why. It is part of our privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device when you visit. They let the site remember things, such as your choices or the page you came from. Similar technologies, like pixels and your browser's local or session storage, work in much the same way.

Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (session cookies). Others stay on your device for a set time (persistent cookies), which varies from one cookie to another.

What we use

Google Ads tag

The Google Ads tag (gtag.js) measures the quote requests sent after a click on one of our ads. When you send a request, it also passes to Google your email, your phone number and, when the form asks for your name and postal code, your name in hashed form, plus that postal code and the country ("enhanced conversions"), to match the request to the ad. Google may set its own cookies for this. So that a request is only counted once, your browser keeps a marker for it in local storage.

ClickGuard

On our ad pages, ClickGuard's script checks clicks on our ads for fraud; it may set its own cookies for this.

PostHog

The PostHog analytics tool, hosted in the United States, runs on every page of the site. It counts page views, clicks and the steps completed in our forms, and turns them into heatmaps (where visitors click and how far they scroll). It also records some visits so we can replay them (session replay), but never what you type in the fields or the lines that show your name or phone number. Once you send a request, it links your visits to that request's number, never to your name or contact details. PostHog sets its own cookie (its name starts with ph_), valid for one year, and keeps a copy in your browser's local storage, to recognize your browser from one visit to the next.

Page-version test

The payment-terminal ad link (/lp/terminal-de-paiement) shows one of several versions of the page. Two cookies, eq_pid (a random ID, or PostHog's if your browser already has one) and eq_lp (the version shown), keep showing you the same version for 90 days.

Campaign cookie (eq_click)

When you arrive on the site from an ad, the link can contain ad-campaign tags (UTM tags, the ad's keywords and Google and Meta click IDs). The site keeps them for 90 days in the eq_click cookie, with the landing page, the site you came from and the time of the click, so that a quote request you send during that time carries them. A new click on an ad replaces these tags; a visit without tags leaves them as they are.

If this changes

If we add other measurement tools, we will update this page first.

You can refuse these tools in three ways:

  • Browser settings. Block or delete cookies and site data, or use a private browsing window (see below).
  • Ad or tracker blocker. An extension of this kind stops the Google Ads tag and PostHog from loading.
  • Google settings. Manage personalized ads in Google's My Ad Center.

The form still works when these tools are blocked. The Cookie choices link at the bottom of every page brings you to this page, which always describes what the site currently uses.

To remove the campaign tags and PostHog's ID, clear the site's cookies and data in your browser settings, at any time.

Browser settings

Most browsers let you see, block or delete cookies and site data. You can usually find these options in your browser's settings, under privacy or security. You can also use a private browsing window, which clears cookies and site data when you close it.

If your browser blocks cookies or site storage, Expert Quebec still works: the campaign tags are simply not kept. Browser settings apply to each browser and device separately, so you may need to change them in more than one place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when we change what the site uses or when the law changes. We will post the new version on this page, with a new date at the top.
