Expert Quebec is a free comparison service for people and small businesses in Québec. It covers internet and TV, cell phone plans, home security, insurance, online degrees and web hosting. This page explains how the service works, so you know exactly what you are looking at.
The short version
What we publish
- Guides. Articles and category pages that explain how each service works and what to look at before you choose. Each article shows the date it was last updated.
- Calculators. Our calculators help you estimate a need or a cost. Each calculator page explains how it works and the assumptions it uses, so you can see how a number was reached. Results are estimates, not quotes.
- Guide prices. Popular plan types in each category, with a typical price range in Québec.
What guide prices are
For each category, we show the types of plans people commonly choose and an indicative price range in Québec. A guide price tells you roughly what to expect. It is not a price from a specific provider, and nobody is bound by it.
Real prices depend on the provider, your address and your situation. They come from partner providers after you answer the quiz, and the provider confirms the final price and terms.
How a quote request works
- You pick a category and answer a short quiz of four questions.
- You leave your name, email, phone number and postal code, and give your consent by submitting the form.
- We send your request to one partner provider in the category you chose.
- The partner contacts you with its offers and quotes.
- You choose. Any contract is between you and the provider.
What happens with your quiz answers
The quiz asks four questions about what you need. Your answers travel with your request, so the partner providers who contact you already know what you are looking for. They are not used to rank offers on our site.
Our privacy policy explains what we collect with a quote request, where it goes and the choices you have.
What to compare in each category
Whatever quotes you receive, the points worth comparing change from one service to the next. Here is where to put the emphasis, and what to confirm with the provider before you sign.
| Category | What to compare | What to confirm with the provider |
|---|---|---|
| Internet & TV | The monthly price after the promo, speeds that suit your household, equipment and installation fees | Availability at your address, published speeds, contract and cancellation terms, modem and TV box costs |
| Phone plans | Data that matches your usage, the price after the promo, network coverage where you live and travel | Coverage maps, data and speed limits, device financing terms, activation fees |
| Home security | Monitoring options, the total cost of equipment and installation, contract length | Professional or self-monitoring, who owns the equipment, cancellation terms, service area |
| Insurance | Coverage that fits your situation, deductibles, exclusions and support when you make a claim | That the insurer or firm is authorized to offer insurance in Québec, and what each product covers and excludes |
| Online degrees | Accreditation and recognition, the total cost of the program, flexibility and format | The institution's accreditation or recognition, program length, tuition and fees, admission requirements |
| Web hosting | The price at renewal, not just the first term, performance, support, backups and security | Renewal pricing, storage and bandwidth limits, backup and SSL policies, data centre locations |
How we make money
Expert Quebec is free for you because partners pay us: a referral fee when we send them a quote request you asked us to send, or a commission when you sign up with them. These payments never come from you. Our advertiser disclosure explains this in full.
Corrections
If you spot an error, an out-of-date figure or a broken link, please contact us and tell us which page it's on, so we can correct it.
What we don't do
- We don't publish live offers or rank deals. The prices on the site are guide prices, not partner offers.
- We don't monitor prices for you. We do not run an automated price-monitoring or price-alert service. Our newsletter is simply news and tips by email, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- We don't work with every provider. Not every provider on the market is a partner, so there may be options elsewhere that suit you better.
- We're not a provider. Expert Quebec is not an insurer, an insurance broker, a school or a telecom provider. We don't sell plans, policies or programs, and your contract is always with the provider.
- We don't give advice. Our content is general information, not financial, legal, insurance or educational advice. For decisions about your own situation, speak to the provider or a qualified professional.
